So Matt and I officially have our first "unplanned repair" in the house. Prior to leaving for St. Lucia, I noticed some water damage on the ceiling of our kitchen near the chimney. We put off further investigation until yesterday and the results are not good.
On Sunday, Matt cut a small 2x2 hole in the ceiling to see what we could see. Well, our first surprise was to find out that there is no subflooring under our tub. I guess this is a bad thing and since this house was built in the 1940s, before building codes were established, we would eventually learn the downsides of building an older home. Anyway, we couldn't find where the water was coming from so we just put some tape over the hole...great fix, right!
So last night, I call Matt on the way home. He informed me that from us showering in the morning, the water had travelled down the front of the chimney and the wall causing the paint had bubbled off the wall....fantastic! So I get home and Matt has made the hole bigger in the celing, about 4 x 4 now. The ceiling is all over the kitchen floor, cabinets and counter. I hand him the flashlight and still no luck. So I decide to go and turn on the water upstairs to see if we can better determine where the water is coming from. Within 5 minutes, it is really coming out of the hole. So I run upstairs, turn the water off and we pull a little more of the ceiling down and bingo, found it....
A MOLDY T PIPE!!! ok honestly, totally disgusting!! Ok...so now, who am I going to call? DAD! and it went a little something like this..."Um Dad I think Matt and I have a problem...some pipe is all moldy and I need you to come up this weekend to come help fix it...here's Matt cause I don't know what else to explain to you..."
After a long talk with Pops (and if any of you know my father, you would know that conversations are never short), Matt and I try to put together a contrapment to catch the water becuase there is minimal room under this pipe. So I find some tupperware but after we get it up there, we really can't get it out without dumping out all the
